One of The University of Tulsa’s featured Make a Difference Engineering (MADE at TU) projects was delivered to its clients in May. The bench press weight machine for wheelchair users was installed in the gym at Tulsa’s Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges.
The device is one of TU’s mechanical engineering senior design projects produced in the program’s spring capstone course. Team leader Austin Jester explains how his group was assigned the project, the design and fabrication process and why it’s important to serve the community.
About MADE at TU
In addition to senior projects, many other TU students regularly participate in the university’s Make a Difference Engineering (MADE at TU) initiative, focusing their talents on projects that address the special needs of local residents with physical and developmental disabilities. This year, MADE at TU participants also built an interactive Donation Station device for Tulsa’s Little Light House.
