Professor Laura Ford to receive AIChE engineering education award

University of Tulsa Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering Laura Ford has been selected to receive the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Education Division’s Award for Service to Chemical Engineering Education. The honor is designated for educators who, within 20 years of completion of the highest degree, have shown dedication and broad service to chemical engineering teaching and learning, especially in chemical engineering professional societies.

laura fordFord began her faculty career as adviser to the TU AIChE student chapter and eventually chaired the national level Student Chapters Committee. As co-adviser of the TU student chapter of Engineers Without Borders-USA (EWB-USA), Ford mentors engineering students and has accompanied them on service trips abroad.

She studies engineering education methods while teaching engineering science thermodynamics, mass transfer and senior labs. Ford is a member of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), EWB-USA and AIChE. Her recognition is based on dedicated service to chemical engineering teaching and learning, locally and nationally, that ranges from middle school open houses to duties as ASEE Chemical Engineering Division Chair.

Ford will receive the award at the Education Division Dinner during the AIChE Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this fall.
